Investigations for the Torrington Police Department is comprised of one Detective Sergeant and one Sergeant assigned to the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation's Southeast Enforcement Team as a narcotics task force officer (T.F.O.). Investigators for the Torrington Police Department are responsible for the investigation of major (felony) crimes as well as the management of other investigations being conducted by the Patrol Officers of the department.
The Detective Sergeant acts as the lead investigator of all serious felony cases and provides case management for all other investigations. The Detective Sergeant also is the liaison for the department with the Goshen County Attorney's office as well as the City of Torrington Attorney's Office to insure that cases are reviewed and also aids in the prosecution of such cases. In addition to these and other administrative duties the Detective Sergeant also conducts background investigations on new employees, handles internal affairs investigations and is the property and evidence custodian.
The T.F.O's primary responsibility is the investigation of narcotics related crimes. The rise of narcotics crimes has a direct relation to the rise in other crimes such as property crimes and violent crimes, so the department's ability to assign an investigator to target specifically narcotics is paramount. The T.F.O. also assists with all other investigations being conducted by the department when needed.
